Trauma OT is a York based occupational therapy service that offers a non-judgemental and compassion focussed approach to practice.

We provide assessment and treatment for children and adults who have been exposed to trauma and are experiencing a range of developmental problems, sensory and emotional dysregulation and dissociation.

Focusing on sensory and attachment-based issues we help people repair and re-build their lives using a range of effective therapies. We warmly welcome referrals from individuals, parents/careers, schools, local authorities and other independent organisations/health professionals.

Examples of virtual services

If you're struggling with ongoing anxiety/ experience flashbacks/ feel that you have poor bodily awareness as a result of what you have experienced or you’re supporting a young person who reports the same then Trauma OT can help. If you have dissociative symptoms like de-personalisation/ de-realisation then we can look at holistic strategies that can help to ground you and bring you back into being more in your body
We also provide sensory training and advice to schools/organisations, considering a systemic approach or individual assessments. Trauma OT therapists don't rely on sterile clinic spaces, instead, we're able to suggest affordable sensory equipment that can be used in the safety of your own home, school or garden. The focus of our work is always on increasing functioning in everyday life, whether that’s issues to do with self care, leisure or productivity/education.

Trauma OT therapists offer one off or regular consultation to both individuals and teams working in health or social care. Our sensory/attachment occupational therapy approaches can be used to either improve staffs own resilience or provide staff with alternative strategies to help manage their clients mental health issues.
