Knowledge is power…all humans have 8 senses, we have to know about them to know how to use them to our advantage.
Sophie’s Superpower Senses is an engaging fictional story aimed at children aged 3-7 years old. It is also intended to be educational and to normalise knowledge and conversation about the 8 senses (and not only the 5 that are taught within the mainstream curriculum). Sophie and her brother Tom will take your child with them on the adventures of their day, playfully explaining the internal senses (relating to body movement [proprioception], balance & motion [vestibular] and recognition of bodily functions and feelings [interoception]). Jenny Quinn is a Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist with an MSc in Sensory Integration. Katherine Hobbs is a freelance illustrator and has worked in the education sector for the past 15 years. Both Jen and Kat are passionate about all children having the right knowledge and tools to support their development, self-regulation, and wellbeing. The 8 senses are currently only commonly known by parents/carers of individuals with additional needs. This needs to change, the 8 senses need to be familiar to all. This book is intended to provide the first building block of information to promote conversation.
